"The meals might not compete with what Mom used to make, but soldiers in Iraq are getting much better rations than their predecessors in Desert Storm a dozen years ago. The difference: spicier dishes and more variety. The vacuum-packed meals in a pouch soldiers eat in the field--called Meals Ready to Eat or MREs--are winning praise from longtime vets who know how drab MREs can be."
