"According to the American Dental Association, nearly 30 percent of the population is fearful of the dentist. Some put off going until the pain is so bad they have no choice, then lose sleep the night before their appointment. Some never show up. They would rather lose their teeth to decay than brave the dentist's chair for routine cleanings and checkups. The answer for these patients may not be biting the bullet, but swallowing a few pills. After drifting into dreamland, they wake up with no pain and virtually no memory of the appointment."
