"The moral of this story is that war by even the most isolated indigenous peoples is not 'traditional.' While the decision to go to war is made by local actors, the fights are in response to changes coming from the outside world. The same goes for the recent large-scale 'tribal' and 'ethnic' violence in Africa, Central Asia, the former Yugoslavia, and elsewhere."
