"In the '80s, Jerry Goldfarb couldn't stop drinking. To end his addiction, he stuck a gun in his mouth. Then he heard his son come home and kick the door open like he always did. 'I couldn't do it. He'd find me with my head blown off,' said Goldfarb, 69. 'When he saw me he said, 'Daddy, what's the matter?' and we both started crying. My life started all over again.' That was about 10 years before Goldfarb and John Giordano, 58, recovered addicts for 18 and 20 years respectively, teamed to open the Holistic Addiction Treatment Center in North Miami Beach. Today [2005], theirs is one of a growing number of centers treating addictions through the mind-and-body concept: from acupuncture to yoga to hypnosis."
