"Six of the world's 21 species of Crocodilians are found in South America. The Paraguayan, or common, caiman is a smaller relative of the American alligator, reaching a length of ten feet at most. It is the widest ranging of the South American species; today [2003], hundreds of thousands of the animals are found in the Pantanal."
