520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. "As institutions of higher learning go, the campus of Lacrosse University [Bay St. Louis, Mississippi], a storefront at a suburban strip mall, is notably lacking in ivy-covered halls, stadiums and the other accouterments typical of academic life. It doesn't even have labs or classrooms. Nevertheless, the institution crops up on the resumes of thousands of people, though not always to the enhancement of their careers....Lacrosse...does not have the imprimatur of any accrediting agency recognized by the state Department of Education." (TIMES-PICAYUNE) This article reports on the problem of "unaccredited mail-order diploma mills" operating in Mississippi and Louisiana and offers some telltale signs to help students distinguish between a diploma mill and a legitimate distance-learning institution.
