"While Washington state lawmakers weigh legislation that would give some violent teens a chance for rehabilitation, 28-year-old Jeremiah Bourgeois is destined to grow old in prison for a murder he committed at age 14." (THE SEATTLE TIMES) This story describes the life of Bourgeois, who is serving a life sentence in prison. Although lawmakers in his state are considering new legislation "that would give judges more flexibility in sentencing at least some teens" who commit violent crimes, the bill would not affect those charged with aggravated murder, and would have "no bearing on Bourgeois or 14 other prisoners who were convicted of that crime when they were 17 or younger." |
