But Zaamir, who is willing to speak at length in a corner at the Old City's Neufaracafe, expresses the general frustration over the gap between expectations and reality in the new Syria. 'Believe me, nothing has changed here,' he says. 'An old president has gone, and a young one took his place, but the ruler is still surrounded by the same people, and they are the ones who set the tone in the country. As long as that old group is in power, nothing will change."
