Human rights abuses both current and past underscore the need to remedy this situation in any future peace process. Human rights should not just be on the political agenda for Afghanistan--human rights must become THE agenda." (AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL) This article outlines past human rights abuses in Afghanistan. Also included are recommendations to promote a human rights agenda in settling the current conflict.

WARNS OF RISK OF CIVILIAN MASSACRES -- "United Nations High commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson has warned the Northern Alliance, the opposition to the Taliban regime, that there will be no impunity for them if civilians are massacred in the context of the current armed conflict."
