But for all its utility in showing a correspondent on the front lines, the videophone did not show much action there....Because of its low transmission rate...the videophone is impractical for showing something as active as boys racing around with guns....Given the less-than-satisfying results in Afghanistan--with out-of-sync images evoking a 'Max Headroom' episode--the networks are scrambling to find new hardware and software so they will be better equipped to go into the next battle." (NEW YORK TIMES) The author presents TV networks' need to find better tools for journalists to use when attempting to get "fully edited videotaped reports on the air cheaply and quickly from remote places.".
