"As of last week [Feb. 17, 2003] in South Florida, more than 150 children were runaways from the state's child welfare system...willing to take their chances on their own, on the streets. Of 2,905 runaways reported statewide, more than 13 percent or 380...are foster children, some as young as 9, who have fled Florida's Department of Children & Families." (SUN-SENTINEL) This article profiles the lives of several runaways from DCF shelters and foster homes and examines the difficulty in finding solutions to the problems of homeless teenagers.
