"Although she had two parents, Kazuye Suyematsu ended up at the Manzanar orphanage when she was 2-1/2....After President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed papers authorizing the internment, authorities transferred the Shonien orphans to the Children's Village at Manzanar. Nearly 100 children would be housed there, ranging in age from newborns to 19."
